Gala Art Auction -- Thank You!!!

We at the Friends of the Arts want to take a moment to thank everyone who came out and supported the Mount Sinai music, theatre, and arts programs by attending our Gala Art Auction fundraiser, with a special thank you to everyone who purchased art.  We hope you had as good a time as we did and love all your new masterpieces!

It was incredibly successful and will go a long way towards supporting the many programs already lined up for next year.

Here's a letter from one of the attendees (she was kind enough to give us permission to post):

Dear FOA/Marlin Arts,

I simply wanted to let you know how much my husband and I enjoyed the Art Auction that was held at Willow Creek Golf and Country Club this month.  From the hors 'd oeuvres and the wine to the beautiful symphony that played, it was even better than I had anticipated. We purchased 5 pieces! The intent was only to purchase one or two, but thought the art that was shown and the value attached was more than worth the investment. It also made us feel good to give back to the art programs in our schools. I have been spreading the word for the people who did not attend that it is an event not to be missed.

We look forward to going next year. Thank you for an incredibly executed event.

                     Respectfully,

                              Priscilla Arena

We hope to see you again next time!

Donation Spotlight

In October, the High School music students had the opportunity to participate in a character education event.  Below are two quotes.  The first is from a teacher in the Syosset school district who experienced this seminar prior to Mr. Sutherland being invited here.

“Our good friend Ron Sutherland (Clarence Wind Ens. Retired, NYSSMA Past President and All State Head Chaperone, Guest Conductor, etc….) led a Leadership Workshop for our music students that was absolutely fabulous. I watched Ron as he captivated their attention for 90 minutes. He spoke to them about getting out of their “Comfort Zones” and making the types of decisions that exemplify good leadership. He uses many music and sports analogies and tells some wonderful and personal stories that challenged students to examine the types of decisions they make every day.” -- Michael Salzman Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts, K-12 Syosset Central School District

The second quote is a testimonial from one of the students who participated...

"Thank you Mt. Sinai Friends of the Arts for giving me and the rest of the music students the opportunity to be influenced and moved by Mr. Ron Sutherland. He was an inspiration to me and taught me what a real leader really is. Students enjoyed talking to him one on one and the things he said were valuable to not just music, but also to everyday life. He gave us tips like always try harder than your hardest, because only then will you succeed". -- anonymous
